Character Profile - Xalvador

A background history of The Progenitor Chronicles most complex character - Xalvador

A prince with dark hair and tan skin wearing a black tunic with rubbies. He is sitting before a ball of fire on a volcano planet named Desdemona.

It’s funny how a character will change as you write a story. In my original thoughts, Xalvador was going to be the ultimate bad guy. But then, as I wrote the story, I kind of felt bad for him. I didn’t just give him a father who was … well, not nice, I stole his entire life from him. I gave him a background that would make anyone struggle to make good decisions. After some advice, I changed his story — a little.

Xalvador’s Early Life:

Xalvador is the first-born child of King Absalom and is the only child of Queen Ecantra. It was said he was the most handsome son on Desdemona. As a tribute to the newly born child, the Desdemonans caused all the volcanoes to explode on the planet.

He was a curious child who loved to explore the unique rock formations that made up the Obsidian palace. Those looking after him constantly had to usher him back inside to his studies as a child.

Though his father was enamored with his son at first, his heart grew dark over time. King Absalom brushed aside his wife and son to create another family. Xalvador had thirty half-brothers and sisters, but he was estranged from them.

Xalvador grew up in a dilapidated estate away from palace life with his mother. While there, he worked as a helper to several of the farmers in the area. It was their only source of food and clothing since his father refused to support them.

By the time Xalvador came of age, his father attempted to remove him as heir to the throne of Desdemona in favor of his half-brother, Mikal. Thankfully for Xalvador, the council members of Desdemona vetoed the King in his decision. But King Absalom had an alternative idea to remove his son — barbaric duels to the death.

It was during this ritual that his father had seen on a distant planet that Xalvador found himself up against his siblings in battle. His mother watched on as he was forced to kill more than half of them, including his father’s beloved son, Mikal.

King Absalom was furious with the outcome because Mikal had a special ability, he was born with that Xalvador did not. In order to gain his father’s approval, Xalvador sought genetic modification. After the procedure was completed, his powers to manipulate fire and liquify rocks intensified. Though his father looked on with some approval, Xalvador knew his father would never love him as much as his half-brother.
